30 International Orders and Counting: South African Craft Is Going Global

In March 2026, we opened Made by Artisans to the world. Four months later, we've just shipped our 30th international order — and we couldn't be more proud of what that represents.

It means that a pair of KARU sheepskin slippers handmade in Cape Town is keeping someone's feet warm in the United Kingdom. That a set of Cape Lasercut coasters crafted in Hout Bay is sitting on a table in the United States. That a Veldskoen — South Africa's most iconic shoe, hand-stitched in Durban — is being worn on streets in Australia, Portugal, and New Zealand. South African craft, made by South African hands, landing in homes across the world.

Where We've Shipped To

In just four months of international shipping, Made by Artisans orders have reached customers in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Lithuania, and Hungary — with more destinations being added as word spreads.

The appetite for genuinely handcrafted, story-driven South African products is real. And it's global.

How We Ship: TUNL, UPS & FedEx

Getting handcrafted goods from Cape Town or the KZN Midlands to a doorstep in London or Los Angeles requires a shipping partner you can trust. We use TUNL — a South African international shipping platform that works with UPS and FedEx to offer reliable, trackable, and surprisingly affordable international delivery.

TUNL has been an excellent partner. They've made international shipping accessible for a store like ours — removing the complexity and cost barriers that have historically made cross-border e-commerce difficult for South African small businesses. Every international order is fully tracked, handled by world-class carriers, and delivered with the care our products deserve.

For our customers abroad, this means:

  • Full tracking from dispatch to delivery
  • Reliable carriers — UPS and FedEx, with global reach and proven track records
  • Competitive rates — international shipping that doesn't price the product out of reach
  • Peace of mind — 30 orders shipped, 30 orders delivered

Why This Matters

Made by Artisans exists to connect people with products that are made with purpose — by skilled South African artisans, using quality local materials, with stories worth telling. For a long time, that story was largely a local one. Opening up international shipping changes that.

It means a South African expat in the UK can send a pair of Veldskoen home to a family member, or order a set of KARU slippers for themselves as a piece of home. It means a traveller who discovered our brands at the V&A Waterfront can order again from wherever they are in the world. And it means the artisans and small businesses behind our brands — from Groundcover in Curry's Post to Veldskoen in Cape Town — have a genuinely global market for their work.

Ordering from Outside South Africa

If you're reading this from abroad, here's what you need to know:

  • Most products on the Made by Artisans store are available for international shipping
  • Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on your location and order weight
  • Orders are dispatched from South Africa and delivered via UPS or FedEx through our TUNL partnership
  • Full tracking is provided from the moment your order leaves us
  • Delivery times vary by destination — typically 5–10 business days to major markets

Thirty orders in four months is a start. We're just getting going.
